Of the ten islands only five are inhabited. Each has its own charm and unique characteristics, with most of the population living in the capital Praia, an urbane and absorbing city with plenty to offer in the way of culture and nightlife.
Sal Island, Sao Vicente and Boa Vista are all recommended as property hotspots for investment, each having the right conditions for growth and established tourism infrastructure.
Renowned for its beaches, Sal Island is the main island in the Cape Verde archipelago and has the best developed tourist facilities. The main town, Santa Maria is lively and bustling with an established reputation with both locals and holidaymakers.
Perhaps the most European of the islands, Sao Vicente has a relaxed atmosphere and a more cosmopolitan feel to Sal. Geographical conditions make this an international haven for windsurfers, while the 18-hole golf course and luxury resorts attract high-end tourists.
With some of the best beaches in the archipelago and a unique dune system that covers the whole island, Boa Vista has a great deal of promise in the long-term. Relatively undeveloped, nevertheless the island has huge potential, with nearly 60 km of white sandy beaches.
